Alvaro Morata is now the main January transfer target in attack for Barcelona following initial interest in Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani, according to a report.
Barca head coach Xavi is looking to mold his squad into their mold in their first transfer window in charge. Despite the club’s difficult financial situation, the La Liga club are making progress.
The attack has become an area that needs work and Barcelona have therefore signed Ferran Torres. The former Manchester City man has returned to his native Spain for £ 55million.
A new striker is also on Xavi’s agenda following Sergio Aguero’s early retirement due to a heart problem.
And United striker Cavani had established himself as a firm transfer candidate. He is in the last six months of his contract with Old Trafford and his agent revealed his client’s dissatisfaction to its current situation.
However, LIKE now claim that Cavani is a substantive consideration. That’s because Atletico Madrid striker on loan from Juventus Morata is their main target.
In fact, Barcelona have entered into “advanced talks” with their agent, Juanma Lopez, over a deal. Xavi also spoke to the player, who revealed he feels miserable in Turin.
A loan deal at Barcelona seems like a possibility for Morata, such has been the path of his career lately.
But Xavi reportedly promised he wanted to keep the ex-Real Madrid man for more than six months.
Indeed, the manager classifies Morata as “one of the best strikers” in the world. He also admires his “versatility” and “experience” among other traits.
The striker has been key for Juventus this season, having missed just one Serie A game and scoring seven goals in all competitions.
As such, they intend to replace him with the Marseillais Arkadiusz Milik or Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.
Morata in Barcelona appeals
LIKE adds, however, that Morata will have to cut his current salary by 10million euros (£ 8million) a year if Barcelona are to comply with the financial fair play agreements.
However, the move appeals to the Spain international as he has ties to several players on the squad.
Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle all star among 10 in need of January moves
Morata worked with Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Jordi Alba at Euro 2020 as Spain reached the semi-finals.
Once Barcelona make a deal and pay with Morata and Atletico Madrid, however, they will be able to transfer the clubs “immediately”, the report adds.
Nonetheless, if Cavani does end up leaving United for Barcelona, ââthe Red Devils would consider a Ligue 1 star as their successor.
