Barcelona and Tottenham are said to be in touch with Napoli captain’s agent Lorenzo Insigne over the possibility of a summer transfer amid a contractual stalemate.

According to a report from the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (h / t Daily mail), Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have contacted representatives of Lorenzo Insigne, who is in the final year of his contract with Serie A giants Napoli.

Coming from the Naples Youth Academy, Insigne was part of the Partenopei since 2006. Having been on loan from Cavese, Foggia and Pescara early in his career, the forward has been a permanent fixture in the starting XI for most of the past eight years or so at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

To date, Insigne has racked up 397 appearances for Napoli, scoring a total of 109 goals while preparing another 85 for his teammates. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old, who is currently the club’s captain, also won two Coppa Italia trophies and a Supercoppa Italiana. However, as summer approaches, the Italian’s future at Napoli has been scanned.

Insigne, as it stands, has entered the final year of his £ 4.3million per year contract with Napoli. The 30-year-old, who has been one of Italy’s most outstanding performers at the current UEFA Euro 2020, demands improved conditions before committing his future at the club, leading to a stalemate, being given that the club is going through a difficult period. financially difficult phase.

If Napoli are unable to meet their demands, there is a good chance that Insigne will be on the move this summer, too in a discounted deal, which has alerted Barcelona as well as Tottenham Hotspur, both clubs now contacting the agent for the Italian international.

Barcelona have already strengthened their offensive unity this summer with the double signing of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay. However, another signing might be needed, given that Martin Braithwaite has been linked with an exit while Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele also see an uncertain future.

In addition to the whole situation surrounding Lionel Messi and his now expired contract, another offensive addition would be welcome, although just like Napoli, Barcelona are also in financial trouble and may struggle to meet Insigne’s salary demands, especially as they seek to integrate Messi’s new deal into the La Liga fair play structure.

As for Tottenham, the Premier League giants are considering a rebuild under the leadership of new manager Nuno Espirito Santo and sporting director Fabio Paratici. The latter’s arrival, in particular, has seen Spurs be linked with a fairly significant move to Serie A players, with Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic also becoming a transfer target this summer.

Interest in Insigne could come from the uncertain futures of big players like Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, who suffered disappointing campaigns last time around, while Erik Lamela is also considering a potential exit. So even though Tottenham have the left flank secured with Son Heung-min, someone with Insignia’s versatility and scoring ability can be a quality addition.

So far, Tottenham and Barcelona have contacted the Italian agent. However, any movement is still a long way off and would only happen if the contract talks got bogged down completely. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Insigne.
