Barcelona are reportedly considering entering into a swap deal with Arsenal involving Philippe Coutinho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.
According to Jota Jordi on El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona are considering the potential signing of Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and are reportedly ready to offer Philippe Coutinho in exchange for the forward.
Aubameyang will celebrate his fourth birthday at Arsenal next month. Arriving from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, the Gabon international became an instant hit at the Emirates Stadium, quickly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers.
However, the 32-year-old who received the captain’s armband last season has seen a significant drop in his form over the past eighteen months as goals dry up for the forward. In addition, he was also relieved of his captain duties earlier this season after disciplinary offenses.
Since then manager Mikel Arteta has not named him to any of the day’s squads, leading to question marks over his future at the club. And Barcelona, ââwho are looking for a new striker, have shown interest in securing his services. The Catalan giants are looking to add a natural goalscorer to their ranks in the January transfer window after seeing Sergio Aguero announce his retirement.

Although they are set to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City, a movement for a real n ° 9 could be useful for the Blaugrana as they seek to move into the top four after a disappointing first half of the season. This has led to links with the former Arsenal captain but given his financial situation Barca are looking to offer Coutinho in exchange for Aubameyang.
The Brazilian, who will also finish four years at Barcelona in January, has been out of favor at the club for some time now and is not seen as part of manager Xavi’s plans. Plus, given the huge salaries he earns, the Catalan heavyweights are eager to get him off their books at the earliest.
Recent reports had indicated that Arsenal were among the clubs interested in securing Coutinho’s services and are working on a deal to sign the ex-Liverpool playmaker in January. A decision for the Brazilian at the moment doesn’t make much sense for the Gunners, with Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard performing admirably.
Moreover, he also doesn’t match the profile of the players North Londoners have been targeting lately. Nonetheless, Barcelona are ready to explore the possibility of swapping Coutinho for Aubameyang next month. However, the chances of such a deal being reached seem pretty slim as it stands.
