ILAIX MORIBA turned his back on becoming a senior Spain international by choosing to represent Guinea instead.
SB Nation reports that the Barcelona starlet’s father has confirmed the midfielder’s decision ahead of the team’s 1-1 draw against La Liga rivals Athletic.
And the pick could see the Camp Nou player called to international duties next month with Guinea facing Morocco and Guinea Bissau in the World Cup qualifying clashes in September.
Reports claim the midfielder’s choice comes amid speculation about his future in Ronald Koeman’s side who will next face Getafe.
The 18-year-old starlet, whose current contract expires in June 2022, has been linked with Chelsea, RB Leipzig and Real Madrid by news outlets in Spain.
It is believed that the club chiefs want to retain the services of the Guinean who has five Spanish under-17 caps.
However, officials have reportedly balked at the salary demands of midfield agents.

Barca boss Koeman has described the contract scenario between the club and the player as “horrible”, having already lost legend Lionel Messi in a free transfer this summer.
Earlier this week, the Camp Nou chief told reporters: “It’s about playing games.
“But the player and his side think differently. I’m disappointed.
“Illaix’s situation is horrible. My advice is that money may not be the most important thing for an 18 year old.

The starlet has been touted as one of the most promising talents at the club’s La Masia academy.
The player has scored two goals and four assists in 29 appearances for the Blaugrana who finished third in the Spanish Premier League last season.
Some of the midfielder’s past performances have compared him to Paul Pogba with the Spaniard.
This includes a momentous display in August 2018, when the teenager scored a hat-trick in Barca’s 5-0 against Real Madrid.
