Barcelona are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation of 27-year-old Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva at Manchester City.
According to a report from Catalan media El Nacional, Barcelona still retain an interest in Bernardo Silva despite failing to sign him during the summer transfer window. And the Catalan giants are watching his situation closely following recent comments from Pep Guardiola suggesting the 27-year-old could still leave Manchester City.
Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City in the summer of 2017 after an incredibly successful campaign with AS Monaco, complemented by a shock Ligue 1 triumph in 2016/17. Over the past four years, the Portuguese playmaker has made significant progress under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, although he has undergone heavy rotations in the past two seasons.
Things seemed to have come to a head due to such a situation and Pep Guardiola made a revelation during the summer transfer window where he underlined the 27-year-old’s desire to leave the Etihad. Such a situation had aroused the interest of Barcelona, ââwho had insisted on signing him this summer.
However, neither of his suitors have managed to make a sufficiently convincing offer for Silva, who has remained behind at Manchester City and made eight appearances for the Citizens so far this season. Barcelona, ââhowever, continue to hold an interest in Silva and for good reason.

The Blaugrana inexplicably chosen not to sign a midfielder this summer despite the departure of Ilaix Moriba and Miralem Pjanic (on loan). While Gavi and Nico Gonzalez were mind blowing when they had their chances in the first-team setup, the duo cannot be overly played due to the risk of wearing them out.
With Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets the only other regular options available to Ronald Koeman, it’s understandable why Barcelona are looking for a central midfielder. Silva, to that end, is a viable target for the Catalan giants, who can also use the 27-year-old off in the final third, which is another area they want to strengthen.
For now, Barcelona are closely monitoring the situation of Silva, who has a contract until 2025 with Manchester City, which means he could take a significant fee to remove him. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can finally get their hands on the Portuguese playmaker if he takes a step for him.
