Barcelona retain Marco Verratti’s interest

Mino Raiola has reportedly offered Marco Verratti to Barcelona, with the Blaugrana eager to sign the 29-year-old Italian midfielder.

According to a report by Catalan media outlet El Nacional, Marco Verratti remains the subject of Barcelona’s interest for a possible transfer in a future transfer window. The Catalan giants have been offered the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old midfielder by his agent Mino Raiola as the player is unstable at Paris Saint-Germain.

Marco Verratti has established himself as one of the best players to ever play for Paris Saint-Germain since arriving from Pescara in July 2012. Now in his tenth campaign with The Parisians, the Italy international has been a key figure for the club and the country for most of the past decade.

To date, Verratti has made 359 appearances for PSG, scoring nine goals and 58 assists. However, the 29-year-old is not entirely happy with his situation at the Parc des Princes as it has not been used regularly by Mauricio Pochettino this year, despite the injuries. Such a situation has caught the attention of Barcelona, with Mino Raiola also keen to take him to Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants have a long-standing interest in Verratti, having previously tried to secure his services. The continued eagerness to sign the Italian midfielder makes sense, given Frenkie de Jong surprisingly faces an uncertain future at Barcelona.

Interestingly, the Dutch midfielder has been heavily linked with PSG and could be Barcelona’s golden egg as he looks to raise money for a squad overhaul during the transfer window of the next summer. And replacing de Jong will be imperative for Barcelona. To that end, the La Liga heavyweights have been linked with several midfielders including Corentin Tolisso, with Verratti also being a viable target.

However, it should be noted that the last time Barcelona attempted to sign Verratti, PSG essentially retaliated by securing the services of Neymar in a world record deal. This time around, the Ligue 1 heavyweights are expected to kick off the offensive for de Jong, with Pochettino being an admirer of the former Ajax midfielder.

Their strained relationship with PSG is another hurdle Barcelona will have to overcome, as The Parisians could impose an excessive price on Verratti. For now, it looks like Verratti is set to join Barcelona, and it remains to be seen whether the Blaugrana can convince PSG to sell the 29-year-old for an acceptable sum.
