La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly submitted a bid worth €32m to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have recently submitted a bid worth €32m to secure the services of Robert Lewandowski during the summer transfer window. But Bayern Munich quickly rejected the offer and will demand a higher sum to part ways with the Polish striker.

The Robert Lewandowski saga threatens to drag on for a few months before reaching the last days of the summer transfer window. The 33-year-old was a legendary figure for Bayern Munich during his eight-year spell with the Bavarian giants.

But Lewandowski, after another excellent season which ended with a total of 50 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances in all competitions, wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. And with his contract with Bayern Munich expiring next year, clubs like Barcelona sense the opportunity to steer him away from the Allianz Arena.

Barcelona will have to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done well to fill the void left by Sergio Aguero’s early retirement. The former Arsenal striker finished the 2021/22 campaign as one of Barcelona’s top scorers despite only being at Camp Nou for four months.

But the Blaugrana won’t sign Luuk de Jong permanently from Sevilla, while Martin Braithwaite will likely look to end his time at Camp Nou to join a club where he can feature prominently. Barcelona will therefore have to dive into the market for a striker, with Robert Lewandowski becoming their key attacking target after it became clear that Erling Haaland was beyond their reach.

The 33-year-old wants a move to Barcelona and is pushing to seal a move to Camp Nou. But Bayern Munich will put up strong resistance to keep the veteran striker following comments from several board members who were defiant about the player’s desire to leave.

The Bundesliga champions were also quick to reject Barcelona’s €32m offer. Although the report didn’t mention how much Bayern Munich will demand for Lewandowski, Barcelona are likely to table a higher offer after breaking the deadlock with an official proposal.
