Barcelona to try one last time to retain Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele

In eight days, Ousmane Dembele will officially be a free agent and Barcelona head coach Xavi is aware that time is running out. There has been substantial interest from Chelsea and Paris St-Germain, although neither club has yet entered into advanced negotiations.

Daily mail claim that Xavi has pleaded with the Barcelona hierarchy to make a last ditch effort to renew Dembele’s contract. Apparently, Xavi and the coaching staff fear missing out on key transfer targets due to the club’s ongoing financial struggles.

A video that recently surfaced on social media showed Dembele interacting with a fan while on vacation, during which he says “I’m good in Barcelona” in response to the Chelsea rumours.

Ousmane Dembele is in the final days of his contract at Barcelona.

Whether this is keeping a low profile or an indication of Dembele’s true desire cannot be said for sure. What is certain, however, is that the Frenchman will have no shortage of clubs vying for his signature.

Chelsea and Paris St-Germain are the two biggest names in the running for Dembele, with the Blues potentially having an advantage due to the presence of boss Thomas Tuchel.

Much has been said about Dembele’s relationship with Tuchel. The duo spent a season together at Borussia Dortmund, where the German helped turn Dembele’s explosive talent into one of the best in Europe.

Dembele’s first season at yellow Dortmund resulted in 10 goals and 22 assists in 50 games for him. Numbers like that obviously got a lot of attention, and Barcelona shelled out a massive stand to enjoy one of the brightest young talents in the world.

Barcelona will make one last attempt to retain Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele.
Thomas Tuchel and Ousmane Dembele know each other very well due to their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

Irregular form and several injuries have prevented the 25-year-old from reaching his full potential, and it’s increasingly likely now that his future lies outside of Spain.

What does this mean for Chelsea?

The Blues don’t seem to be in a rush to sign Dembele and that’s understandable. Chelsea have other issues to deal with, such as their boardroom situation which suggests club manager Marina Granovskaia is about to leave his post.

fabrice romano claimed that a statement on Granovskaia’s future is imminent, so we can expect the dust to settle on that front very soon.

Unless it’s clear who does what, incoming transfers are likely to take a back seat, but not for very long. soccer london previously said that Dembele is currently on vacation. Therefore, any decision regarding his future will likely only be made after he returns from vacation.
