Barcelona have done some key business in the transfer market so far, with the signings of Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, while they have also re-signed Ousmane Dembele. In addition to this, the Blaugrana are set to bring in Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
The Catalans will now have to focus on exits as they need to free up space on their wage bill to accommodate the new signings and register them successfully before the start of the new season.
Barca have already gotten rid of Rey Manaj, Moussa Wague, Francisco Trincao and Clement Lenglet but there are plenty of other unwanted players who need to be shown the gates sooner rather than later.
And Mundo Deportivo reports that player exits will be top of mind for Barcelona once they return from their pre-season tour of the United States. The Blaugrana will seek to eliminate up to seven footballers.
Of the seven players, five are those who had been excluded from the pre-season tour – Riqui Puig, Martin Braithwaite, Neto, Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza.
Among the quintet, Mingueza is attracting strong interest and could leave soon as Barca have decided to lower his price.
Neto has also courted interest from Napoli and Fulham and could soon emerge from Camp Nou, paving the way for Inaki Pena to become Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper.
As for Umtiti, Braithwaite and Puig, Barca need to find suitors, especially for the French defender, whose transfer to France recently collapsed.
Apart from these five players, Barcelona will also be looking to offload Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, with reports claiming the Dutch duo’s exit will be key to freeing up plenty of wage bill space.
De Jong is on Manchester United’s radar, but has refused to leave the club. As for Depay, he is more open to an exit, amid interest from clubs in England and Italy.
It remains to be seen how successful Barca are in their efforts to get unwanted players off the books.
