Arsenal had been undefeated since February, but the Barcelona women changed that pattern in the Women’s Champions League. Barcelona won 4-1 in a dominant fashion as ex-Arsenal player Asisat Oshoala scored a goal and an assist. Barcelona took a two-to-zero halftime lead and dominated Arsenal throughout the game.
The first goal came via Mariona Caldentey who took advantage of a rebound on the missed Oshoala. Alexia Putellas received a nice ball from Asisat and converted from the center of the box to bring the score to two to zero before the end of the first half. Then a deep pass from Mariona to forward Asisat Oshaola who scored one from the center of the box made three to zero.
Then Arsenal finally scored a goal from a set piece in the 74th minute. In this situation, Beth Mead crossed paths and passed to Frida Maanum who scored Arsenal’s only goal. However, Barcelona put salt on Arsenal’s injuries just after ten minutes with Lieke Merterns scoring a goal thanks to a through pass from Patri Guijarro. Barcelona could have made it five-to-one, but Alexia Putellas missed a penalty late in the stoppage time.
