Barcelona ‘make it clear they will NOT upgrade their offer to Ousmane Dembele’ after he becomes a free agent… with the cash-strapped club’s latest offer ‘including a 40% WAGE CUT’

  • Ousmane Dembele became a free agent on Friday when his contract expired
  • But Barcelona refuse to give up on renewing the Frenchman’s contract
  • The cash-strapped club’s latest offer to Dembele included a 40% pay cut
  • They last met with his agent on Monday and made it clear they would not be raising him

Barcelona have made it clear to Ousmane Dembele that they have no intention of increasing their offer currently on the table for the Frenchman to renew his contract, according to reports in Spain.

The winger is officially no longer a Barcelona player after his contract at Camp Nou expired on Friday morning and he is a free agent after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Catalan giants.

Amid Barcelona’s financial crisis, Dembele reportedly had to take a major pay cut to stay at the club.

The club’s latest offer to Dembele would have required him to accept a 40% reduction on his old salary, settling for the same salary as Ansu Fati, so Barcelona could have stayed within LaLiga’s salary cap, according to SPORT.

The Spanish club have made it clear that this is their best offer and won’t consider increasing the offer.

The last contact between the player and the club came on Monday when Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko traveled to Barcelona for another meeting to discuss a possible contract extension after previous offers were turned down.

As Barca coach Xavi pushed for a deal, Sissoko made the trip after making it clear that no deal could be done under current conditions.

Xavi even interrupted his vacation to make sure he was present for the meeting as he made the France international his priority for the right-winger job.

However, no progress was made as Barcelona once again highlighted their difficulty in making an improved offer due to financial constraints.

But SPORT’s report adds that the LaLiga side do not consider negotiations to be over and have insisted they are not ending talks as they are keen to keep him at the club.

Meanwhile, Dembele is said to have various offers on the table from other clubs – including Chelsea – looking to sign him as a free agent, but is yet to make a decision on his future.
