Arsenal and Tottenham have been put on alert with reports suggesting Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho could be available to sign in January.

The Brazilian playmaker, who signed for the Catalan club for £ 145million in January 2018, has had a beleaguered record at Barcelona this season, where he has so far played just 82 minutes of La Liga football. .

Barca’s financial woes were laid bare over the summer, with the high-profile departure of Lionel Messi signaling a new era for the Spanish giants.

Both Arsenal and Spurs have been linked with a forward move in the past, and now El Nacional report that January might be their time to finally get their man back.

The Spanish outlet also suggests that Liverpool have abandoned any interest they previously had in a comeback for Coutinho, who still holds the record for the most expensive export in Premier League history.

Coutinho won the Champions League on loan with Bayern Munich in 2019/20, but still finds himself in the pecking order in Spain despite the club’s struggles on and off the pitch.

This season, under the leadership of Ronald Koeman, Barca have won just two of their first five La Liga games, leaving them seventh in the table and already seven points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Koeman has played Coutinho in the club’s last two games, with the Brazilian first playing for an hour in the 1-1 home draw against Granada before getting 22 minutes in the goalless draw against Cadiz on Thursday .

Barcelona have also been linked with a move by Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette, with the Frenchman’s current deal in the Emirates expiring at the end of the summer.
