Film Live At The Masonic Temple

Tear will release its first feature film, ULTRAPOP: Live At The Masonic Temple, a “narrative concert film” directed by Tony Wolski, on October 15 via Sargent House. It debuts digitally that day, as well as live in Detroit, and there are more digital screenings from 10/16 to 10/21. Tickets for screenings are on sale now.

Today they released the performance of “WHERE MAN KNOWS WANT” from the movie, and it’s a sensory overload that really gives you a sense of how intense this band is. Find out below.

The synopsis of the film says:

Part “Lemonade”, part “Living in Pompeii” and entirely imbued with a sense of Lynchian terror – the project is a surprisingly filmed cinematic document of live performances taking place in opulent chapels, imposing asylum rooms, life-size indoor handball courts, the halls (and more) of the mysterious Detroit Masonic Temple; a 550,000 square foot fortress in the heart of the city.

The live performance and scripted storytelling blend seamlessly into each other, as the film confronts themes of identity, information warfare, the commodification of the artistic product, and the commodification of the artist. The film also definitely shines a light on The Armed’s often-mysterious collaborative structure, revealing an ever-changing lineup during its run as they perform songs from The Armed’s release album ULTRAPOP, selections from their second. LP, Only Love and CYBERPUNK 2077 single “Night City Aliens”. The film culminates in the ultimate catharsis with the entire collective converging for the closest devastating “On Jupiter”.

The film serves as a companion to the excellent new album by The Armed ULTRAPOP, which came out earlier this year. They also have shows in the US in 2022 at the El Club in Detroit on January 8 (tickets), at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York City on January 15 (tickets), and at the Belasco Theater in LA on January 22 (tickets).
