Frenkie de Jong's dad opens up on Barcelona future and Man United change chances

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong’s father gave a glimpse into his son’s future at the club on Monday.

Torres among the targets

The subject of entries and exits has of course proven to be a major topic of conversation when it comes to issues at Camp Nou lately.

It comes as the final instillation on the bench for Blaugrana club legend Xavi set to build a squad capable of re-establishing themselves at the top not only of Spanish football but also of Europe as a whole.

In turn, a slew of top stars, particularly in the third striker, have been tipped to move to the Catalan capital during the January transfer window.

The most lingering links have surrounded Ferran Torres, the Manchester City star player, who club president Joan Laporta has already confirmed has indeed become a winter target:

‘He [Torres] is one of the players we have in our sights, but there are many more. You have to wait and see how it all goes, ‘ the Barcelona chef explained to TV3.

“Don’t see it happening”

As for the potential departures from Catalonia, personalities like Ousmane Dembele, Marc-André ter Stegen and Sergino Destination were all cited as possible avenues for raising much-needed funds.

If the final comments regarding another member’s future linked to the transfer to Xavi’s ranks is anything to do with, then, at least, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Speaking on Monday in an interview with the AD outlet in his home country, the Netherlands, John de Jong, Frenkie’s father, was drawn to his son’s future at Camp Nou.

It comes in the middle of the surprise suggestions in the media that the midfielder, with a less than impressive campaign opening, could be made available for a transfer.

His father, however, decided tonight to pour cold water on such rumors, assuring that despite the fact that “the 5 best European clubs” have contacted his services, it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will really have to sell.

Interestingly, the Dutchman appeared to rule out both Manchester United and Bayern Munich as future destinations, citing ‘horrible weather’ as a determining factor:

“Bayern or United? The weather is horrible there… I know Barca need the money and an interesting offer for Frenkie could help, but I don’t see that happening. Yet… the 5 best European clubs requested him. ‘
