[Barcelona, Spain, February 28, 2022] Today, the IPv6 Forum on “IPv6: Unleashing Connectivity Potential, Driving the Digital Economy” was held at MWC22 in Barcelona. Steven Zhao, Vice President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, delivered a keynote speech titled “IPv6 Enhanced, the Cornerstone of Digitalization,” envisioning the future of IPv6 Enhanced.

Steven Zhao, Vice President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, delivered a keynote address titled “IPv6 Enhanced, the Cornerstone of Digitalization

He pointed out that digitization has swept the world. More than 100 countries have published their digitization strategies. IP networks, as a cornerstone of digitization, play a key role in connecting everything and applications. In the context of digitization, IP networks face many new requirements, such as massive IoT, cloud-network convergence and deterministic services. IPv6 Enhanced will become a major trend for network upgrade and evolution, as well as the cornerstone of digitization for many industries, such as finance, manufacturing and healthcare.

Zhao noted that the rapid development of digitization places new demands on IP networks. The first requirement is a massive IoT. By 2030, there will likely be tens of billions of IoT devices, meaning mass access will become an important core capability for IP networks. With the advent of the cloud era, more and more enterprises are adopting a multi-cloud connection, placing demands on network flexibility and real-time performance. In the future, not only office services will be moved to the cloud, but also production services. This places higher demands on the deterministic quality of the network. To meet these new requirements, IPv6 Enhanced will further unlock the value of connectivity in terms of deterministic quality, programmability, intelligent O&M, and more.

IPv6 Enhanced not only drives innovation and entrepreneurship, digital economy transformation, S&T development and economic growth in the post-pandemic era, but also plays an important role in digitizing many industries.

In the carrier industry, the IPv6 Enhanced Cloud-Network Express solution helps carriers build differentiated private cloud access lines by leveraging their network resource advantages. This enables operators to provide users with a fast and quality cloud access experience. On the access side, the one-piece multi-connection solution helps users quickly access clouds. On the aggregation side, the pan-private line planning solution enables unified access and seamless scaling. And on the backbone side, the SRv6-based intelligent cloud-map algorithm enables optimal cloud network resource planning.

In the financial sector, new services such as online transaction and online payment are emerging one after another. While seeking stability, this sector must also enhance the agility of financial services. SRv6 enables branches and outlets in different regions to access cloud services in a single hop. Based on the current cloud and network load status, the corresponding scheduling algorithm flexibly schedules cloud and network resources. Intelligent operation and maintenance based on technologies such as in-band flow measurement ensure the stable and reliable operation of financial services networks.

In the manufacturing sector, the transmission of industrial control signals has very strict requirements on the network. In the smart manufacturing industry, IPv6 provides enough addresses for the large number of sensors, while network slicing provides dedicated network-level assurance for different services. After IP-based reconstruction, massive production data can be quickly transferred to the cloud, and cloud computing power and intelligence can be efficiently transferred to production sites to guide production lines more accurately and efficiency.

From connecting only people to connecting everything, IPv6 Enhanced has been implemented in more than 100 countries, effectively supporting the digitalization of various industries, such as finance, manufacturing, energy, education and health. Let’s embrace IPv6 and IPv6 Enhanced technologies to accelerate to a new digital world.
