Lexi Sterner talks Shot at the PokerStars Platinum Pass in Barcelona


Many poker players would like to be in by Lexi Sterner position. The part-time poker player is one of eight players heading to the European Poker Tour stop in Barcelona. On Monday, the group will face off for one hell of a prize – a PokerStars Platinum Pass.

The opportunity comes two years after Stars announced that the women were the winners of a special promotion. Poker players have been asked to nominate inspiring women in the game as part of a International Women’s Day Party.

Those selected had to play in a single table tournament with the Platinum Pass in play. Unfortunately, covid delayed the event, but finally the event is now set for Monday.

The prize includes a $30,000 tournament package for the PokerStars Players Championship (SPAC) in the Bahamian in January. Sterner now planned a big event that lasted two years.

“Participating in the EPT Barcelona is an incredible honour,” she said. USPoker. “Sometimes I have to take a second and consider that my dreams are now a reality and think about how far I’ve come in my poker journey. Hospital operating room with a nurse playing poker

Sterner, who lives in Florida, has had a poker life with unique twists. She may be a part-time player who works as a nurse in her day job, but still puts in a lot of hours at the poker table.

“I work regularly in neurosurgery in the context of spinal complexes and brain surgery,” she says. “I’m part of awake craniotomies and advanced, life-saving brain surgeries every day. And then a day later I get on a plane and play poker in Las Vegas or play the WSOP main event. For me, I think it’s a pretty interesting life.

In a way, poker also led Sterner to become a nurse under difficult circumstances. His father patrick fought pancreatic cancer and was in the hospital for over a month. Sterner introduced him to poker to take his mind off such a serious illness.

“They only gave him a 5% chance of living beyond five years, and now he’s almost 10 years cancer-free,” she said. Told WPT.com. “So we’re still saying he hit the one-outer.”

Seeing how his nurses care for his father inspired Sterner to get into health care. She has now been in office for seven years. And when he’s not in nursing gear, Sterner often finds himself at a poker table.

Head to Barcelona with PokerStars

Like many, Sterner started playing the game while in college over a decade ago. Earn $70 just for playing $1/$2 No-Limit Hold’em was part of his routine. She is now in a prime position to land one of poker’s ultimate prizes.

“I never thought this could be a reality,” she says. “Over the past 10 years, poker has had a huge impact on my life and to be considered one of the women to play for a Platinum Pass makes it even more worthwhile.

“I look forward to sharing the incredible impact poker has had on my life and hope to encourage more women to play this unique and incredible game.”

A shot at poker glory

The PSPC first took place in the Bahamas in 2019, with PokerStars awarding plenty of passes to small buy-in tournaments and online contests. A Platinum Pass includes a $25,000 tournament and a complete travel package for two.

The tournament ultimately attracted recreational players as well as many pros. spain Ramon Colillas emerged victorious for $5.1 million after entering with a Platinum Pass itself. In total, the tournament attracted 1,039 entries for a $26.5 million prize pool.

Sterner is now hoping she will get her own Platinum Pass to try her luck at poker. The entire single-table tournament will be broadcast live by PokerStars.
