Liverpool News: Reds outcasts wanted by Barcelona to help fill Lionel Messi void | Football | sport

Barcelona could try to fill the void left by Lionel Messi by making a shock move for one of Jurgen Klopp’s outcasts at Liverpool, according to reports in the Spanish press. Messi left Barca in a devastating way this summer when it became clear that the club’s massive debts would not allow him to sign a new contract.

La Liga rules prevent clubs from spending more than a certain percentage of their turnover on their payroll.

The legendary striker’s contract expired at the end of June, technically making him a free agent. Registration rules prevented Messi from renewing his mandates as he was reportedly classified as a new signing.

This meant that the iconic striker had to leave the Blaugrana. He ended up at Paris Saint-Germain where he didn’t quite look like the same player, although an insignificant injury did impact his debut.

Barca have had to deal with injuries from the loss of their all-time greatest player. They continued to struggle to sign new players, with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique accepting pay cuts.

This allowed Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and former Newcastle flop Luuk De Jong to sign.
