Barcelona is an amazing place to explore Spanish culture or even just relax on a beach. The city is home to Spain‘s main Mediterranean port and is known to international and domestic tourists for its stunning beauty.

The city is the capital of the province of Barcelona and belongs to the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia. Places not to be missed on a trip to Barcelona include a stroll through the maze of narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter and discovering the truly breathtaking works of Antoni Gaudi.

Barcelona is an important religious center and includes the Cathedral, several churches and the Episcopal Palace. One of the most well-known places to visit in Barcelona is La Rambla, also known as Las Ramblas. Tourists can enjoy a relaxing stroll from Plaza de Catalunya to the old port. Las Ramblas is also an amazing place to relax and watch the world go by.

The best way to enjoy the city is probably on foot, so grab comfortable shoes and watch your step count go up.

Places to visit in Barcelona

No trip to Barcelona would be complete without seeing Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia.

Gaudí is the most famous architect in Catalonia. La Sagrada Familia is a magnificent basilica that features stained glass windows and carved details.

As you walk in front of the building, you will have a breathtaking view of Gaudí’s work. Anyone who really wants to appreciate the Sagrada Familia, however, should head inside and see how construction has progressed over the past decades.

Barcelona also has a magnificent coastline of 4.5 kilometers. Visitors have the chance to try their hand at many water activities as well as sports such as volleyball or just enjoy a relaxing swim in the Mediterranean. Of course, the beaches have a wonderful variety of beach bars or chiringuitos. It is the ideal place to enjoy a cocktail or a meal.

Beach bars can also be a great place to visit at night and offer fabulous vibes with an ocean view.

If you haven’t had your fill of Gaudí yet, head to Gaudí’s Park Güell. It is a perfect way to enjoy more of Gaudí’s original ideas as you stroll through the tiled park with sculptures and gardens. You can have amazing views of Barcelona if you head to the highest point in the park.

Other places to visit in Barcelona

Anyone who wants to enjoy nature should head to the mountains of Tibidabo and Montjuïc.

Going up to Tibidabo, Collserola or Montjuïc will reveal some truly breathtaking views and allow people to come back to nature.

The area also offers olive oil and wine tastings, and kids can be happy at the Tibidabo Amusement Park, which has attractions to keep the whole family entertained as well as several places to eat.

Food

Barcelona offers an incredible variety of traditional dishes. Some of the highlights include Esqueixada de bacallà which is a Catalan cod dish and Arròs negre. Arròs negre uses squid ink to flavor and color the rice and is best served with alloli, a homemade garlic mayonnaise.
