MANCHESTER CITY has contacted France international Antoine Griezmann about a potential transfer, according to reports.
Barcelona are believed to be ready to sell the striker to reduce his payroll, allowing him to re-sign off-contract star Lionel Messi.
According to French website Foot Mercato, City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken to Griezmann, 30, about a possible transfer to the Etihad.
The Premier League champions need a new striker after releasing club legend Sergio Aguero and the Frenchman could do the trick.
City have been linked with England captain Harry Kane but could be left out of a move by current employers Tottenham.
Rumors suggest Barcelona are hoping to receive a serious offer for Griezmann this summer to ease his financial woes.
The Spanish giants are believed to need to cut costs to operate under a salary cap, new signing Memphis Depay has reportedly agreed to a 30% pay cut.
Barca are yet to sign a new contract with Messi and the sale of Griezmann could fund his salary.

The five-time European champions signed the World Cup winner in July 2019 for £ 108million, but they are unlikely to get all that money back.
Griezmann has only scored 22 La Liga goals since leaving Atletico Madrid, while his former side have become Spanish champions.
Reports claim the player would not be interested in joining Paris Saint-Germain – and other European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus are waiting to see how the transfer window plays out before considering a move.
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman alluded to Griezmann’s departure at a recent press conference.
He said: âFor me Griezmann is very important.
“He was a great signing for Barca and he showed his quality. He’s a very good player.
“But I insist, I don’t know what decisions will be made in the end, because the most important thing is that Leo stays with us.
“This is the future of this club and we must try to the maximum [to keep Messi]. “
