Members of the CULERS community around the world have chosen Pedri as the 2021/22 Player of the Season in an online vote open since last Friday. Pedri (6,721 votes) finished slightly above second place Ronald Araujo (5,941), with Ter Stegen comes third, Gavi fourth and Ousmane Dembele fifth. Some 22,000 fans voted in the .cat, .es, .com and .fr domains.
Pedri shines through his injuries
Pedri was the fan favorite despite missing much of the season through injury. Indeed, his comeback has a lot to do with the 15-match unbeaten run in the league, including the famous 4-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It may not be a coincidence that the Europa League elimination against Eintracht Frankfurt came precisely on the day that Pedri got injured again and missed the rest of the season.
With Pedri on the pitch, Barca have won 83.3% of their 12 games, but of the 26 games the Canarian has been absent, they have only won 42.3%. Figures that speak for themselves?
Season statistics
Pedri ended 2021/22 having made 22 competitive appearances, 19 as a starter. He scored five goals and delivered one assist. Apart from a brilliant performance at the Bernabéu, he was also particularly outstanding in away games against Galatasaray and at home against Sevilla, scoring superb goals in both cases. The one against Sevilla was actually chosen as the best goal of La Liga 2021/22.
