Fabrizio Romano has revealed Tottenham have agreed to discuss a possible permanent deal for Clement Lenglet with Barcelona at the end of the season.

Lenglet has made a good start to life at Spurs following his loan spell from Barca in the summer.

However, the centre-back has yet to find a place in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up, and he was responsible for Newcastle’s second goal on Sunday, perhaps demonstrating that he has yet to fully accept the Premier League.

Asked about his future, Lenglet suggested last week it was too early to think about what will happen next summer, but the centre-back hinted a permanent switch to Spurs may be on the cards if he did well this season (The Guardian).

Romano has now revealed in the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast (12:20) that while Spurs have the option of making the Frenchman’s loan deal permanent, the North London club have a ‘verbal agreement’ with Barca to discuss a potential deal next summer.

Boosts web opinion

I think Tottenham will be in the market for a left centre-back next summer, with Alessandro Bastoni likely to be Conte’s number one choice, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no chance Spurs sing Lenglet.

I suspect the Frenchman is really battling with Ben Davies to stay at Spurs as Conte will have to decide next summer whether to hang on to the Welshman or let him go and permanently sign Lenglet instead.
