After securing back-to-back wins after the October international break, Barcelona now look to the first El Clasico of the season as they host Real Madrid in La Liga on Sunday.
As with everything El Clasico, there are a plethora of notable storylines to watch out for before the game. This time around, much of the talk leading up to this clash has focused on Barca’s recent lackluster form. The Catalan powerhouse entered the October international break with a simple victory in their previous six matches, including the modest 2-0 La Liga loss to Atletico Madrid.
Even though Barca have failed to secure a victory in their last four El Clasicos, manager Ronald Koeman is still very confident in his squad ahead of the clash with the club’s longtime rivals.
Following Barca’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League group stage win at home over Dynamo Kiev, Koeman was asked whether he thinks his side could clinch a win against Real Madrid in the of the next day. The Dutch manager didn’t provide a vintage and detailed answer, but just kept it simple.
âYeah, why not?â Said Koeman.
Koeman has also taken the time to highlight an area of ââplay that he believes Barcelona have improved in the game against Dynamo Kiev.
“We know we’re at a club where you have to play well, score goals and win games,” Koeman said. “But we also have to underline our work without the ball, in which we improved, and today we were not at our best level, we would have won by at least three goals.”
A victory for each side in the next El Clasico could well change the season.
