The sixth edition of the Best FIFA Football Awards is set to take place on Monday, January 17. The best players in the world in the men’s and women’s categories will be honored during this mega event at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich. The awards ceremony is held annually to recognize the contributions of the best players in all FIFA-related competitions.

The awards ceremony is organized by the supreme governing body of football – (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) FIFA. While the Ballon d’Or award ceremony was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony was held virtually.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski ended the dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Men’s Player of the Year award last time out. The Polis star is once again in contention to claim the top honor and was nominated alongside Argentina legend Messi and Liverpool striker Mohammed Salah.

Messi won a record seventh Ballon D’Or last year after a brilliant season with his former club FC Barcelona and his Argentina national team. The legendary striker led Argentina to a memorable Copa America triumph, capping a stunning season on a personal level and is one of the favorites to become the best men’s player of the year 2021.

While Salah capped off another sublime season with Liverpool, Lewandowski also continued his prolific run in 2021. He scored the most goals by any player in the calendar year finding the net 54 times in 58 matches in all competitions for club and country.
