FC Barcelona reported that 91,553 fans attended Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final at Camp Nou, breaking the attendance record for a women’s football match.

Tied 1-1 at half-time, Barcelona went on to beat Real Madrid 5-2. Barcelona will advance to the semi-finals with an aggregate score of 8-3 over two games.

The previous attendance record for women’s soccer, 90,185, was set in the 1999 Women’s World Cup Final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

“I had been dreaming about it since I was little. The other day I went to Camp Nou, obviously to see a game, but I also started imagining what it will be like,” the Barcelona captain said. and winner of the Ballon d’Or. Alexia Putellas told the Associated Press in a recent interview.

“I believe this is coming at the right time. We have been working on this for many years and with what we have achieved, it was only a matter of time. And it will also be a matter of time before it becomes normal.

Barcelona had already played a game at the Camp Nou in January 2021, but with the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time, that game was closed to fans.
