United resumes flights between Washington and Spain

After two consecutive summers without offering flights to Spain from Washington DC (IAD), United resumed operations to Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN) from the US capital. Both routes will be operated with daily flights.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline via Cirium, for the 2022 summer boreal season and between Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Spain, United will have an offer of 6,720 seats per week on twenty-eight operations flights, i.e. an increase of more than 15% on capacity in 2019.

Flight route

Madrid (MAD)
  • Flight UA163 IAD 6:10 p.m. – MAD 8:05 a.m.+1
  • Flight UA164 11:15 a.m. MAD – 2:10 p.m. IAD

United will increase seat capacity on this route by more than 42% over 2019 supply. Previously, this route was operated by 169-seat Boeing 757-200s, but demand is now pushing to upgrade to widebody aircraft.

Barcelona (BCN)
  • Flight UA992 IAD 6:10 p.m. – BCN 8:20 a.m.+1
  • Flight UA991 BCN 12:00 p.m. – IAD 3:05 p.m.

All of the Chicago-based airline’s flights from the US capital to Spain and Catalonia will be operated on 240-seat Boeing 767-400ERs (39 Business Class/201 Economy Class).

According to data compiled by Aviacionline via Aena Estadisticas, from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Spain, United moved 111,694 passengers and 494.4 tonnes of cargo in 654 flight operations in 2019.
