Bundesliga club VfL can’t get rid of worries expelled by Wolfsburg. Lower Saxony lost 0:3 (0:1) to table neighbors FC Oxburg and came back amid the struggle for the exit.

Just 52 seconds later, the “Wolves” were on the losing side: Brazilian Iago scored 1-0 for FCA, Florian Niederlechner (63′) and Mads Pedersen (69′) advancing to the second round. Wolfsburg’s Bavarian Swabians couldn’t think of attacking anything against the defensive bar and their play was consistent and harmless. Lower Saxony therefore rightly conceded a third defeat in a row. “What’s important in a hard battle is that you support each other, that’s missing,” manager Jörg Schmidt commented on his team’s performance.

“We must not think that we have solved this problem one way or another. We must survive the battle of expulsions and defend ourselves much more.

In the table, VfL are ranked 13th and are still five points clear of the exit zone and the first exit zone. Next Saturday, Arminia is waiting for the next live contender for “Wolves” in the home game against Peelfeld.

Awake in Oxburg, Wolfsburg is harmless

Wolfsburg, who traveled to Oxburg without coach Florian Kohfeld, who was suffering from corona, and was cared for by assistant coach Vincent Heilmann, received a cold shower from the hosts. Iago slipped away from his guards in the first minute, moving from the left wing and effectively breaking new ground for Oxburg. An effective victory for VfL, which took almost ten minutes to recover from the shock.

“We are traveling without a head coach. Of course it makes a difference,” Schmidt explained. “I hope the game does not contribute to recovery.” Goffelt is expected to join the team on Tuesday.

Lower Saxony created a few chances after being trailed, neither Javier Schlecker (16th) nor Lucas Enmacha (23rd) equalizing. All in all, the green and white game seemed unimaginable. There was no danger from the wings and the last up pass often didn’t work. The guests posed no real threat and entered the break with a merit deficit. “We started the game very badly. All in all, you never felt like a goal was in the air for us from the outside,” Schmidt said.

VfL want to target, but will attack FCA

With no more train to reach the destination, Wolfsburg exited the cabin. Max Kruse and Jonas Wind missed the double chance (48th) and gave hope to the traveling VfL fans that the performance would increase. Hopes were dashed as Wolfsburg quickly returned to form in the first round and conceded the next goal after a corner: Reese extended to Oxford Netherlegner, who made it 2-0 (63rd).

No reaction, VfL threatened to break up. Six minutes after 0:2, the ball was back in the goal of VfL goalkeeper Pao Pervn. Knitterleighner latched on to Peterson, who scored Augsburg’s third goal, which is well worth watching. After that, it was just the damage limit for Lower Saxony. At least this afternoon it was like that.
