Barcelona are not Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is expected to sue, although the Frenchman is expected to be available as a free agent at the end of the season.
Pogba has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is eligible to officially negotiate potential deals with foreign clubs as of January 1.
Pogba has long been in no rush to secure his future. 90min revealed in July that the player wanted to weigh his options before committing to the next stage of his career, whether it be signing a new deal with United or challenging himself elsewhere.
The Premier League club are in dispute over Pogba’s future, with some inside figures questioning whether it is worth keeping a new contract which is expected to reach £ 400,000 a week. Likewise, however, losing it on a free transfer is not an ideal situation.
Barcelona, ââReal Madrid, PSG and Juventus have all been linked with the 28-year-old at various points in recent years. But if Real, PSG and Juve, who made a name for themselves in the latter between 2012 and 2016, could remain interested, Barca should not be on the hunt due to their precarious finances.
The club’s salary cap has been cut to the bone due to declining revenues and a report commissioned by the current board of directors found the club were in a position of ‘technical bankruptcy‘ in March from which they must recover. .
While Pogba may be available as a free agent, such a transfer still requires a huge financial commitment in terms of salaries, signing bonuses, and agent commissions.
SPORT report that Barca see Pogba as “unviable” and “cannot come close” to the salary they would like. This is despite the club being keen to land an influential new midfielder. It is also suggested that the Catalans view Agent Mino Raiola’s tactics as a way to get the best deal to stay at United.
